Mallavora

MallavoraAfter a UK headline tour, Download Festival and opening for Skindred, Mallavora released their new EP on Marshall Records in November 2024.On their new EP Echoes, they’ve distilled every aspect of their lived experience into fifteen minutes’ worth of blazing alt-metal, exploring topics including identity, neurodiversity and difference while blending in elements of R&B, soul, pop and cultural music associated with Jessica’s Jewish-Middle Eastern background. Personal, uncompromising and showcasing the full breadth of the band’s identity, these four tracks comprise a gigantic statement of intent.Mallavora crafts a visceral, kaleidoscopic sound that transcends metal’s subgenres. They’re not just different—they’re unapologetic, forging a community where everyone can belong. Everyone’s invited, except for bigots.

What are the events?

Our mission is simple - to host regular, high quality and affordable live events that are drug and alcohol free. BSS is a collaboration between BDP, Not Saints, and the broader Bristol recovery and sober communities. We are supported by the National Lottery, Not Saints, BDP and Bristol City Council.

Who can attend?

Our events are for anyone who wants go to a sober event, for whatever reason. Whether you've chosen a sober life, are in recovery, don’t drink for cultural, religious or health reasons, or if you're just not fussed if there’s alcohol on sale, then Sober Spaces is here for you.

Why Sober Spaces?

We are part of a growing world wide movement towards normalising drug and alcohol free events. Since 2020, there has been a huge rise in the low to no alcohol drinks market, coinciding with more awareness of the need for safe and inclusive spaces, and the rise of the sober curious movement.

Our events are great nights out in themselves, with the added benefits of not having a hangover, saving money, engaging with music and performance with a straight head, and feeling connected to a supportive community.

How can I get involved?

If you're interested in getting involved with our community, you can attend our events, sign up for our newsletter, perform at an event, or get involved behind the scenes.

Still have questions?

If you still have questions or need more information, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We're here to make connections!

We need so much more of this in Bristol. Live music and dancing is what every sober person I meet worries about - it’s fantastic to have a safe space to get involved.

Samantha

It was brilliant to work in an atmosphere with such a vibe that was created by the passion of the Sober Spaces team for music and events. There's always a lot to do from a technical point of view, and working with Bristol Sober Spaces was a breeze from start to finish. Engineering the sound for the artists they had chosen was also a delight, and really highlighted the creativity from each of them.

James

Great! Really diverse audience, great venue (felt very “normal”), music was fantastic. Really enjoyed it being a big band with dancing vibes rather than just acoustic music (which is also great but felt like a real treat to have a big band).

Lydia

It was such an honour to be part of the Sober Spaces event. It felt like a really valuable gathering for people supporting eachother in a new wat of life. I feel passionately about being part of the sober community and the night we put on was full, and buzzing with positive energy. Keep these gatherings going!

Emmy

The Sober Spaces Open Mic attracted a rich range of local talent which surpassed any of my expectations. It was my absolutely pleasure to enjoy the performances and a delight to also be able to take part.

AJ

It was such a privilege to perform with sober spaces and be a part of a process in which people are sharing their unique musical gufts in a space that is a supportive and caring of everyone's journey in life.
